Temple is determined to prove that its football team can fill a gap in Philadelphia's sports landscape. "If you look at Philadelphia, we have the best college basketball with the Big Five," said Temple Athletic Director Bill Bradshaw. "The pro sports are great. The only thing missing is football on Saturdays." To spread the word, Coach Steve Addazio has blitzed sports-talk radio shows, riled up students at pep rallies and pushed his players to get involved in community events.  Addazio believes the football team's hard-nosed image is a good fit for the city. "We talk about being Temple tough and Philadelphia proud," he said. The engagement has shown early signs of promise. Temple said it has drawn roughly 10,000 students to both of its home games.
