Campus Sustainability Week at Temple

Temple will host fun and informative events throughout Campus Sustainability Week, April 14–18.

“Students often believe that sustainability is just about recycling,” said Director of Sustainability Kathleen Grady. “But recycling is only one component of sustainability. It is really a holistic way of looking at the world.”

To that end, Campus Sustainability Week features a wide range of events and activities designed to foster a sustainable worldview on campus. These include two panel discussions, on financing energy resources and bike safety, respectively; a walking tour in which participants will learn how to identify edible and medicinal plants that grow on Main Campus; and a clothes swap.

On Friday, fresh off of the university’s first national win in the RecycleMania Game Day Challenge competition, Temple will spotlight its waste minimization efforts at the Computer Recycling Center’s open house. The open house will showcase the Temple Office Supply Swap program.

“Students have the power to make a difference,” Grady said. “While something as big as climate change may seem daunting to the current generation, they should know that individual and organized action can have a big impact.”
