Hooter the Owl and other members of the Temple community cheer on runners at last year's Broad Street Run.

On Sunday, May 3, Temple University will host runners of the 36th annual Broad Street Run. More than 40,000 people are expected to participate in the race down Broad Street from Somerville Avenue to the Navy Yard.

Temple’s Main Campus is prominently featured on the course, and many of its buildings are featured as landmarks in NBC10’s coverage on television and the run’s official site.

Student and alumni runners who preregister will receive a special T-shirt at the Temple tent (located next to the NBC10 tent) when they pick up their race packet at the Blue Cross Broad Street Run Health and Wellness Expo. Temple shoelaces and rally towels will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and runners may also register to win a gift basket from Temple’s bookstore. The expo will take place in the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Friday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The entire Temple community is invited to join Hooter the Owl, the Diamond Marching Band, athletes and members of the Temple cheerleading team at the Main Campus cheer station from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The cheer station is located on Broad Street at Polett Walk, near the run’s 3-mile mark. T-shirts, noisemakers and refreshments will be provided by the Temple University Alumni Association. The cheer station will be celebrating four years of making the run’s course through Main Campus more memorable for athletes.

“We are excited about the cheer station at Main Campus,” said Michelle Nicoletto, CLA ’05, volunteer coordinator in the Office of Alumni Relations. “A lot of Temple alumni live close to campus, and the run is a great reason to come back.”

This year, a cheer station will be set up for the first time at Temple’s recently renovated Center City campus at 15th and Market streets. Temple T-shirts, pom-poms and balloons will be available for volunteers cheering on the runners as they pass by City Hall on the way to the finish line.
