Alpha Office Supplies and Staples support Temple scholarships for North Philadelphia students
Alpha Office Supplies, a North Philadelphia company, and Staples Advantage, the business-to-business division of Staples, have partnered to pledge $250,000 over the next five years to support Temple scholarships for North Philadelphia students as part of the 20/20 Scholarship Program.

Temple Architecture team fights to save Joe Frazier's gym
A team of students in Tyler School of Art adjunct faculty member Dennis Playdon's "Introduction to Architectural Preservation" class has been fighting to save a little-known building on North Broad Street that was boxing legend Joe Frazier's gym. Last month the National Trust for Historic Preservation rewarded their efforts by naming the gym one of America's 11 most endangered historic places. But the fight isn't over yet.

CORE researcher studying sleep deprivation and postpartum weight gain
Temple researcher Sharon Herring will begin studying whether sleep loss contributes to postpartum weight gain in new mothers. Funded by a $486,000 Clinical Scientist Development Award from the Doris Duke Foundation, the study will focus on urban, low-income mothers, who have the highest levels of obesity in America.

Philadelphia Public Interest Information Network takes on OpenDataPhilly project
The Philadelphia Public Interest Information Network (PPIIN) has assumed responsibility for managing, operating and extending the OpenDataPhilly.org project, which provides free and easy access to data to encourage better and more transparent government and a more engaged and knowledgeable citizenry. Currently part of Temple University’s Center for Public Interest Journalism, PPIIN aims to educate, engage and empower Philadelphia citizens on topics of public interest. |

Temple Libraries will debut its new website design today. The new site puts searching and accessing resources front and center and prominently highlights new resources, public programs and special initiatives to keep users informed of news and changes. The new site will be accessible at the same web address: library.temple.edu.

The Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) on the Health Science Campus of Temple University (Dr. Gary Foster, PhD, 3223 N. Broad St, Suite 175) is looking for people to participate in a weight loss and sleep apnea study. Eligible participants are overweight, have sleep apnea, do NOT use a CPAP, do not have diabetes, are between the ages of 18 and 64, and are available for 13 study related visits at CORE and 3 overnight sleep studies at Temple Hospital. The study will last for 36 weeks. If eligible, you will receive an investigational medication or placebo, nutritional and lifestyle counseling, and you will be provided with compensation.
