Temple’s 127th graduating class gathered in the Liacouras Center Thursday, May 15, to celebrate the success of the university’s largest-ever class. The more than 9,000 students eligible to receive degrees included students who hail from 46 states and the District of Columbia, and 77 different countries.
From official Selfie Stations to congratulatory tweets from family members, Temple University’s 127th Commencement was a big hit in the social-sphere. According to Trendsmap Philly (@trendsphilly): #TUgrad14, #CherryOn, “Bill Cosby,” @billcosby, @missjillscott and “Katz” were trending in Philadelphia yesterday.
Ash Vasudevan, FOX ’96, co-founded a nationwide talent search in India to find the next big-league-caliber baseball pitcher in a country where cricket dominates sports. Disney’s “Million Dollar Arm”—which premieres nationally May 16—is based on the first season of his reality TV competition.
Early childhood education major MaryKate Higgins came to Temple from a small town in Pennsylvania, hungry for new experiences and a chance to make a difference. She got that and more from Temple's College of Education. Tag along as she teaches kindergarten at nearby Duckrey Elementary.

The 112th Commencement ceremony for Temple University’s School of Medicine will be held May 16 at 10 a.m. in the Academy of Music, located at Broad and Locust streets. To learn more about the event, visit the School of Medicine’s website.

The 30th annual Celebration of Black Writing, one of the nation’s oldest African-American literary festivals, will honor author Ernest Gaines, introduce the inaugural Gamble & Huff Award for Excellence in Songwriting and host a monthlong exhibit about the Atlantic City, N.J., landmark called Chicken Bone Beach. The month of programming includes:

Temple Theaters will stage student matinee performances of Odd Girl Out, an original drama that reveals the hidden world of bullying among preteen and teenage girls. The play is based on a groundbreaking book of the same name by Rachel Simmons.
