She's heard it since she was 9 years old: African-Americans don't play hockey, people tell her—and girls don't play either. But Tarasai Karega, the latest subject in our student profile series, has always defied stereotypes. Now this master's candidate in sport business has come to Philadelphia to be a role model to a new generation of urban youth.

Three alumni returned to campus Nov. 20 to pitch their businesses in lightning-round format during the 17th Musser Awards for Excellence in Leadership, hosted annually by Temple’s Fox School of Business. The Musser Awards honor outstanding achievement and service by a distinguished member of the business community, and this year the award went to university Trustee Lewis Katz, director of the Katz Foundation. Staying true this year's theme of university-wide entrepreneurship, the awards program featured “Power Launch,” a spin on event-host Tyler Mathisen’s CNBC show “Power Lunch.”
