Three distinguished alumni—Lewis Katz, Jill Scott and James West—will be recognized for their outstanding achievements during Temple’s 127th Commencement ceremony. The event takes place May 15 at 10 a.m. in the Liacouras Center on Temple’s Main Campus.

The spring 2014 issue of Temple is now online. In this issue: Students learn valuable lessons inside a state prison; researchers study how everyday life affects our DNA; graphic-design graduates forge their own paths; and journalism students document life in Africa.

Pianist Charles Abramovic presents “Springtime in Paris: The Complete Piano Preludes of Claude Debussy.” The Temple community is invited to bring lunch and enjoy a noontime serenade while browsing books of French poetry and art. Light refreshments will be served.

In response to the provost's message March 6, the Instructional Support Center and the Fox School of Business’ Online and Digital Learning department have partnered to offer faculty a hands-on workshop on the WebEx experience. The workshop will explain ways to make up class time missed due to inclement weather. Faculty are asked to bring laptops. Lunch will be served.

Leading and Teaching Without Fear is designed to introduce an innovative approach to the challenges of teaching such as facilitating discussions of controversial topics, managing the resulting conflicts and team building.

Mark Pedelty, associate professor of communication studies and anthropology at University of Minnesota, will present his fieldwork on cases that provide clues as to how activist musicians define and achieve success.

A countercultural commentary on love, war and youthful rebellion, this watershed 1960s musical is still timely and popular. The story of one group’s struggle to live out their ideals in a chaotic world not only defined a generation, but also the future of the rock musical genre.
