Temple’s sports radio show at Maxi’s delivers fun, food and storytelling for students weekly
Temple Talk is a college sports radio show held weekly on Main Campus at Maxi’s Pizza, Subs and Bar on 1926 Liacouras Walk during the academic year.
Temple Talk is a radio show that has become a central part of campus life connecting Temple University students with athletic programs weekly at Maxi’s Pizza, Subs and Bar (1926 Liacouras Walk) on Main Campus.
The show provides in-depth insights into the experiences of athletes and coaches within the Temple Athletics family, game recaps, and what goes into their success.
“It gives students a unique chance to interact with our coaches and student-athletes and see the human side of them,” said Kevin Copp, the play-by-play radio voice of the Owls who serves as the Temple Talk host.
“The show is great for the die-hard fan who wants to listen to breakdowns of the games from coaches and players and the casual fan who just wants to enjoy good food and learn what goes on behind the scenes,” he added. “It’s a way to build on the Temple community.”
Football Head Coach Stan Drayton, players and assistant coaches of the football team are some of the guests who have been on the show this year, which is presently held every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. Drayton said the show helps bridge the gap between the student-athletes and students on campus.
“To do this show right in the middle of campus is critical to the promotion of our football program to put Temple in a positive light,” Drayton said. “We are in a climate where athletes can build their brands that speak to who they are, where they can show their personalities and be marketable for life after Temple.”
One of the players featured in a Temple Talk episode was Maddux Trujillo, the placekicker for the Owls who set a Temple record this season with a 64-yard field goal at home against Utah State; it was the longest-made field goal in Lincoln Financial Field history. He transferred to Temple this year and is pursuing a master of science in financial analysis at the Fox School of Business.
“I knew my talent and could prove myself at the highest level possible. I came on my visit and had a great time. I love the people and the specialists [team members] in the room,” Trujillo said on a recent episode of Temple Talk. “[Special Teams Coordinator Adam Scheier] is a genuine person, who is unapologetic in who he is and that is what I love about him. I felt I could trust him and I think he had faith in me the entire way.”
In December, Temple Talk will air an additional show that includes conversations with players and coaches from Temple men and women’s basketball teams on Mondays from 5 to 6 p.m. at Maxi’s.
Men’s basketball Head Coach Adam Fisher led the men’s team in an exciting run last season, winning four games in four days in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament to be only one win away from making it to the NCAA tournament. And women’s basketball Head Coach Diane Richardson led the women’s team to be the AAC regular season co-champions last year.
“It was such an exciting run for both teams. I believe it will give them momentum going into this season,” Copp said. “I’m excited to chat with Coach Fisher, Coach Richardson and their players as part of Temple Talk throughout the season. It will be fun to hear stories, game recaps and key moments from their perspectives.”
All Temple Talk shows have on-demand access and air on owlsports.com/listen, which houses all Temple Athletics radio broadcasts for football and men and women’s basketball games.
