To the Temple community:

At this time of national discourse on the racism and discrimination that have too long been a part of American life, Temple is joining with state and local organizations to use this time, this year, as a day of reflection on ways in which we can work to overcome barriers to equality.

As many of you know, this Friday is Juneteenth. It is an incredibly important day to recognize and honor. And, it is often a commemoration that too often passes by without the acknowledgement that it deserves.

This year, to honor Juneteenth, Temple University will join with others in the city, state and nation to close on June 19. Only essential personnel should report for work. The university’s medical, dental and podiatric clinics will remain open.

We know that we are in the final days of instruction for many of our first summer session courses and are encouraging faculty to consider how you might adjust any planned class meetings or assignment due dates to allow you and your students to observe this day.
