German Baroque composer Telemann experiencing a revival

National Public Radio’s “Science Friday”

John Allen Paulos, professor of mathematics at Temple, has proposed presidential candidates prove their science literacy. The idea is to help determine “whether politicians could think on their feet, … solve simple puzzles, make simple estimations. I mean, high-tech firms routinely ask little puzzles of prospective employees, and yet our number one employee, arguably, never has to respond in real time to a question that's not canned.”

Temple students go green by donating dorm possessions

Media Outlet:

Metro

Temple's Give and Go Green program gives students who are packing to leave residence halls a convenient way to donate clothing and food they might otherwise discard. Collection bins have been full to overflowing with items for Philabundance, Goodwill and other local nonprofits. Temple hopes to divert 15,000 pounds from the waste stream this year. "It would be OK with me if the number went down, though," said Jim Poole of University Housing and Residential Life. "That would mean that people were shopping smarter and consuming less."

Temple Law's Spiro defends dual citizenship in NYT op-ed

Media Outlet:

New York Times

The Times' "Room for Debate" page took on the issue of dual citizenship, asking: "Can dual citizens be good Americans?" Yes, argued Peter Spiro, a professor at Temple's Beasley School of Law and an expert on immigration law and citizenship issues. "Dual citizenship is an irreversible incident of globalization. Its acceptance appropriately recognizes multiple national identities in a more mobile world," he wrote. "Dual citizenship represents a kind of freedom of association, a form of voluntary affiliation to be protected, not condemned."
