‘Philadelphia’ magazine lauds Temple doctors, specialty programs

Twelve specialty programs and eight Temple doctors have been recognized for clinical excellence in the May 2008 issue of Philadelphia magazine.

Specialty patient-care programs at Temple designated as “Centers of Excellence” include Temple Bariatric Surgery Program, Temple Burn Center, Temple Digestive Disease Center, Foot and Ankle Institute, Temple Hand Surgery, Temple Heart Center, Temple Lung Center, Temple Hospital Neurosciences Center, Temple Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Temple Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Temple Sleep Disorders Center, and Temple Trauma Center.

Temple doctors named in the magazine’s annual “Top Docs” list of regional specialists include Gary Cohen, professor of radiology and chief of vascular and interventional radiology; Satoshi Furukawa, professor of surgery and chief of cardiothoracic surgery; Ellie Kelepouris, professor of medicine and deputy chief of nephrology and kidney transplantation; Christopher Loftus, professor and chair of the Department of Neurosurgery; Michael Madaio, professor of medicine and chief of nephrology and kidney transplantation; William Reinus, professor of radiology and chief of musculoskeletal radiology; Joel Richter, professor and chair of the Department of Medicine; and Ellen Tedaldi, professor of medicine and director of the HIV Program.

“Such independent recognition of our clinical excellence serves as a testament to not only those individuals and programs noted, but to the overall dedication and commitment of all Temple physicians and caregivers in delivering high-quality, safe care,” said Joseph W. Marshall III, president and CEO of Temple University Health System.

“While it’s important to note the limitations of such consumer-oriented lists, we congratulate and applaud the dedicated Temple specialists and world-class programs highlighted in this annual magazine guide,” said John M. Daly, M.D., dean of Temple University School of Medicine.
