Free tax preparation assistance available for low-to-moderate income families

Temple is continuing its commitment to serving members of the community by offering free tax preparation assistance to low-to-moderate income families.

Campaign for Working Families offers tax preparation and financial advice for the community surrounding Main Campus. The organization was created in 2003 and offers free tax services, access to savings products, help with credit counseling, financial education, information about public benefits and referrals for other services.

Temple students and faculty volunteers are available in Ritter Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The program aims not only to provide assistance with tax preparation, but to help community members increase their financial literacy.

"The goal is to serve over 13,000 families, providing them with good services and build up their resources," said Michele Slayton, site manager of Campaign for Working Families. "We want to make sure their money stays with them."

For more information or to schedule a consultation, visit the Campaign for Working Families website.

Beta Alpha Psi and the Temple University Ambler Accounting Professional Society offer a similar service to members of the Ambler community. The program is part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assitance (VITA) program, in association with the Montgomery County Tax Coalition.

Every Saturday until April 7, Temple students, faculty and other volunteers will be available at the Ambler Campus Learning Center, from 1-5 p.m., to offer free tax preparation assistance.

The VITA Program at Temple University Ambler is by appointment only and space is limited. Qualifying families, individuals and students are asked to call 215-204-8110 to schedule an appointment. For more information contact Dr. Steven Balsam at drb@temple.edu.
