Philadelphia internship opportunities heat up summer months for Temple students
While scorching temperatures have sent some residents scrambling to the beach this summer, many Temple students are taking advantage of their break from classes to gain real-world experience through internships and other professional opportunities available in Philadelphia.
An internship party hosted by Campus Philly Tuesday at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts brought out more than 100 area interns from the region’s colleges and universities, including many from Temple. Working with college and university partners, corporate members and other organizations, Campus Philly assists college students in studying, living and working in Greater Philadelphia and serves as a clearinghouse for internships and volunteer opportunities.
“Internship opportunities in Greater Philadelphia are expanding all the time,” said Campus Philly President Deborah Diamond. “From major Fortune 500 companies to mid-size and small employers and start-ups, internships in a variety of work settings are available for Philadelphia’s college students.”
These early experiences go a long way for young people seeking to establish a professional track record, she says.
“We know internships make a difference,” said Diamond. “Students who have an internship during college are more likely to get a job after they graduate and more likely to stay in Philadelphia as well.”
Greater Philadelphia is one of the nation’s fastest growing regions for young professionals, ranking first among large metro areas for growth in the population of those over 25 with a college degree.
