Start of semester brings changes to increase parking efficiency

The Montgomery Garage was completed spring 2013 and provides an additional 1,100 parking spaces.

Beginning this week, the Office of Parking Services implemented several changes to the University parking program to provide more parking options for Temple students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Lots 2, 5, and 7 have been closed.  The Montgomery Avenue Garage, at 11th and Montgomery, has opened, adding 1,142 spaces in a modern, secure structure.

“This new facility provides additional parking convenience for faculty, staff and students,” said Richard Rumer, associate vice president for business services. “Anchoring Polett Walk, it’s just a short walk from any of Temple’s academic buildings.”

Employees with monthly parking will see a $3/month increase to their parking rate. Monthly parking is available in lots 1, 6, 10, Temple Towers, the Bell, Liacouras and Montgomery Garages.

Commuting students will see a significant decrease in monthly parking rates, from $90 to $60.  One of the goals of these changes is to encourage students to park in a safe and secure lot instead of seeking street parking.  Students who purchase monthly or semester parking can park in Lots 6, 10, Temple Towers or in the Liacouras or Montgomery Garages.

“Our primary goal is to ensure that students, faculty, staff, and visitors continue to have access to secure, convenient and affordable parking options,” said Rumer.

For infrequent or daily parkers, the new Part-Time Parking program replaces the former Debit Card parking program. The $70 charge for a parking permit has been eliminated and students and employees can pay $7 per entrance to park in either the Liacouras or Montgomery Garages, versus the daily rate of $15.

All parkers can take advantage of hourly parking rates available in the Montgomery Garage at a rate of $3 an hour — especially convenient for those who are on campus for shorter periods of time.
