Temple Student Government (TSG) on Thursday announced that Future TU, led by President-elect Ryan Rinaldi, will serve the student body in the 2015–2016 academic year.

Future TU captured 3,042 of 4,582 total votes. The opposing ticket was RepresenTU, helmed by presidential candidate Amber Navarro O’Brien, Class of 2016.

The results, announced in TSG’s Student Center offices by Elections Commissioner Inella Ray, Class of 2015, and Elections Chairwoman Tatiana Cook, Class of 2015, capped off two days of voting in which turnout among undergraduates increased from 6 percent last year to 17 percent, surpassing the current administration’s goal of doubling voter participation.

“It was a truly fantastic joint effort between the teams that were running, our campaign squad and the university administrative support we received,” said current Student Body President Raymond Smeriglio, Class of 2015.

Moments after the announcement, Rinaldi, a Fox School of Business student in the Class of 2016, called Future TU’s win “humbling.”

“We’ve worked really hard, and we’re very passionate about building our team, our campaign and platform,” Rinaldi said. “Words cannot express how grateful I am to have this opportunity.”

“We’re so proud and we’re so honored to serve the student body,” added Binh Nguyen, Class of 2017, the incoming vice president of external affairs.

Rinaldi and Nguyen are joined by Brittany Boston, Class of 2016, the incoming vice president of services, on the Future TU ticket. For more on the Future TU team and its platform, visit futuretu.com.

TSG provides a representative government, advocates in the best interests of the student body, and acts as the official voice of students in academic, institutional, and campus affairs.
