Owls win Big 5 Championship

Temple's women's basketball team continued its dominance Wednesday, winning the 2017 Big 5 Championship by beating Penn 63-53 at the Palestra.

The Owls’ Big 5 title is the 10th in program history and the first for the team since the 2010-2011 season.

The Temple women’s basketball team can add another achievement to the list for this momentous season: Big 5 champions.

The Owls beat Penn 63-53 Wednesday night at the Palestra, winning the 2017 Philadelphia Big 5 Championship. The Big 5 title is the 10th in program history and the first for the team since the 2010-2011 season.

The team has dominated this season, with a record of 16-3 overall and 4-0 in Big 5 play. The Owls won their last 12 games, beginning with a commanding 83-48 win at Villanova Dec. 10. Junior Donnaizha Fountain led Wednesday night’s charge at the Palestra, with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Feyonda Fitzgerald notched 13 points and seven assists.

The team is back in action Sunday, hosting No. 12 USF at McGonigle Hall at noon. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
