Celebrate Juneteenth with events at Temple
In honor of Juneteenth, Temple will host events during the week of June 16.

Temple is celebrating the significance of Juneteenth, a national holiday on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. It is a significant date in American history and the African American experience. In honor of Juneteenth, Temple is hosting a variety of events that highlight Black history, including a film festival, panel discussions, family field day and more.
Juneteenth at the Blockson Collection
Attend Visions of Black Life: Honoring the Johnson Publishing Company, an event hosted by the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection in partnership with Getty. Hank Willis Thomas, a conceptual artist, will discuss methods used by critical thinkers to address the field of Black visual studies and to familiarize them with the work of activists, scholars and artists working in this area.

IDEAL’s Film Festival

Join a conversation with IDEAL to discuss films and explore the theme of liberation at the Juneteenth Freedom Café. Everyone is welcome and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Attend the Family Field Day Celebration hosted by the Temple University Black Alumni Alliance and Temple’s Center for Anti-Racism. This year, they will celebrate Juneteenth as well as Black alumni. The event will feature activities, food and music, and Timothy Welbeck, a professor at Temple, will speak on the significance of Juneteenth.
