On Tuesday, Feb. 20, representatives of the City of Philadelphia will join WRTI staff and area jazz musicians in WRTI’s performance studio to issue a proclamation declaring Bob Perkins Day.

With his alias “B.P. with the G.M.” (“Bob Perkins with the Good Music”), Bob has been in the broadcasting industry for more than three decades as an on-air personality.

Bob broke into radio in Detroit in 1964 and started at WDAS, a rhythm-and-blues radio station in Philadelphia, in September 1969, where he worked for the next 19 years. He joined WRTI in 1997.

Bob has also written numerous columns and commentaries on jazz for local publications in Philadelphia.

He has hosted jazz concerts at many local festivals, including the Cape May Jazz Festival, and for jazz clubs in the region.

Perkins was awarded the 2002 Mellon Jazz Community Award.

Bob Perkins can be heard on WRTI 90.1-FM Monday through Thursday 6-9 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
