Boot camp for music industry entrepreneurs presented by Temple University and Ballard Spahr

Music entrepreneurs — aspiring and established — can learn the nuts and bolts of the industry from the pros at a free seminar.

Are you involved in or have you ever wanted to start a music-related company?

Temple University’s Boot Camp for Music Industry Entrepreneurs, an interactive workshop, can provide you with the insights you need to understand the ins and outs of this complex industry.

Designed for musicians, recording artists, and lawyers and businesses involved in the music industry, the boot camp is sponsored by The Fox School of Business’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute, and the School’s Department of Legal Studies, together with law firm Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP.

The event is co-sponsored by Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance and its School of Communications and Theater.

A free, half-day program, the boot camp will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, 8:30 a.m. to noon in Walk Auditorium in Ritter Hall, 1301 Cecil B. Moore Avenue, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. Free breakfast is included.

The boot camp will give both those established in and those aspiring to work in the music industry the opportunity to learn about the legal and business aspects of the music industry, including music publishing, recording, licensing agreements, the use of new media and the Internet, branding, merchandising, advertising, live performance, copyright issues and legislation, and how technology is changing the business.

“This unique event goes way beyond the basics, to cover the infrastructure of the music industry itself — its basis in copyright law and legislation, the organizations that have been established to make the business function, and the leaders who see the large-scale perspective and are moving the industry forward,” said, Corey Field, the program’s moderator. “Just a quick look at the participants shows how broad, from recording to licensing, and how high-level the information will be,” added Field, a copyright and entertainment attorney and music industry expert at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP.
