Electronic grading to debut

Starting this semester, Temple instructors will enter and submit grades for all undergraduate and non-professional graduate courses electronically.

A new web-based electronic grading system will enable instructors to report grades at any time from any computer connected to the Internet.

That’s right, no more bubble sheets. No more dropping off grade forms with departmental administrators during limited office hours. And no more anxiety about grades being lost in the mail or by other parties.

“We’re delighted to provide our instructors with the convenient, accurate, up-to-date electronic grading system they deserve,” said Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Lisa Staiano-Coico.

Electronic grading forms for spring 2008 courses will become available to instructors on Tuesday, April 29, through TUportal (http://tuportal.temple.edu). After logging in and clicking on the “electronic grading” link, instructors will be able to access electronic grade lists for their sections.

Temple Computer Services has posted a narrated online tutorial for instructors at www.temple.edu/cs/training/egrades. In addition, in-person demonstrations of the electronic grading system have been scheduled in mid-April at Main Campus, Temple University Ambler, the Health Sciences Center and the Tyler School of Art in Elkins Park (see below for details).

Help, reference materials and contact information for each school or college’s designated electronic grading liaison also are available by clicking the “help/contact” link on instructors’ electronic grade lists.

Although grades will be submitted electronically, instructors who wish to change grades after submission still must contact their departments to resubmit grades according to the existing change of grade policy. Incomplete contracts, with appropriate required documentation and signatures, also are still required.
