Fencer Howell places second At Junior Olympics

Sophomore took home the silver in the Under-20 epee

 
Sophomore Kristin Howell finished in second place while competing in the Women's Under-20 Epee event at the U.S. Fencing Junior Olympics in Charlotte, N.C., over the weekend.

Competing against 175 competitors from around the country, Howell advanced all the way to the gold medal event, where she was defeated by Courtney Hurley of Texas, 15-11.

"Kristin was fantastic all day," said Head Coach Nikki Franke. "She fenced extremely well and was undefeated until the gold medal bout. This was her best national result ever."

Also performing well for the Cherry and White at the Junior Olympics were sophomores Melissa Parker and Abby Schifferle. Parker finished 22nd in the Women's Under-20 Foil event while Schifferle placed 46th.

The Cherry and White (24-6) return to team competition on Saturday when they travel to New York for the NIWFA Championships. Action is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
