Field hockey receives academic honors

11 players named to National Academic Team by NFHCA

The Temple University field hockey team has received a 2007 ZAG/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award and had 11 members named to the National Academic Squad by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

The team award, presented to field hockey teams with a team GPA over a 3.0 in the fall semester, is the third consecutive team award for the Owls. The Owls’ 2007 fall GPA of 3.24 is the highest in the three years under Head Coach Amanda Janney.

The 11 players honored by the NFHCA are seniors Ashley Bird and Leanne Vogelsong, juniors Jamie Adams, Nadia Clendening, Mary Catherine Kinneman and Liz Watto, sophomore Charise Young, and freshmen Alison Kelly, Taryn Nichols, Meredith Pomeroy and Kylee Yetter.

All 11 student athletes achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. Six of the 11 student athletes had a GPA over 3.75.

The Temple field hockey team ended its season in the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament semi-finals in November 2007. The Cherry and White ended their season with a 15-6 overall record — the first time the Owls had won 15 games in a season since 1991.
