Recent publications: Author and co-author of 16 books, including a textbook, which came out this January, Handbook of International Insurance: Between Global Dynamics and Local Contingencies. He is also the author of 34 book chapters and of 85 articles that have appeared in academic journals. His most recent article, “The Economics of Insurance Intermediaries,” was published in the Journal of Risk and Insurance, the premier journal in the field.

Something no one would guess about me: “I’m a huge jazz fan, especially John Coltrane and Wynton Marsalis.”

Philosophy about teaching: “I try to keep things interesting and give students a good intuition for what they’re learning rather than just applying the formulas mechanically.”

Thing I like most about teaching: “I love working with doctoral students, and I’ve advised more than 41 students for their dissertations and am currently chairing 11 students. It’s exciting because you’re training the next generation of intellectual leaders.”

Why I chose Temple: “Temple has a thriving and dynamic risk management and insurance program, and it’s one of the biggest — if not the biggest — in the country. Temple also has a really fantastic faculty.”
