At the Second Annual Social Entrepreneurship Conference, Jeremy Nowak, president and CEO of The Reinvestment Fund, will challenge participants to consider, “What are the investments that will make a difference to the future of [Philadelphia], especially in our poorest neighborhoods?”

According to Jeremy Nowak, president and CEO of The Reinvestment Fund (TRF), “Philadelphia teeters at a precarious intersection of decline and renewal.

We are trying to rebuild the city, and we are trying to do so with a public sector whose habits, politics, organizational structure, mission and technology are too often obsolete.”

Nowak will address how public-sector behaviors can support or inhibit a city’s success on April 11 at Temple University, during the Second Annual Social Entrepreneurship Conference: Investing in Urban Communities: Balancing Growth & Inclusion.

Attendees will be challenged to consider difficult questions that are sure to spark debate, such as: “How does the public sector have to reform to support a more competitive city, and what are the roles of major institutions like Temple in this transition?”

The Second Annual Social Entrepreneurship Conference will take place on April 11, from 9 a.m.–11 a.m., in room 200 of the Student Center on Temple’s Main Campus.

Chip Roach, retired vice chairman, Prudential Fox & Roach Realtors is the Master of Ceremonies.

In addition to Nowak, other panelists include Omar Blaik, president and CEO, U3 Ventures; Rose Gray, vice president of Economic and Community Development, Asociacion Puertorriquenos en Marcha, Inc. (APM); Michael Lappin, president and CEO, Community Preservation Corporation; Sharmain Matlock-Turner, president, Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition; John Westrum, president and CEO, Westrum Development Company; and Carolyn Adams, interim dean, Temple’s College of Liberal Arts.

Admission is free, and a light breakfast will be served.

The event is supported by The Fox School of Business, the College of Liberal Arts, the School of Social Administration, Citizen’s Bank and Charley & Peggy Roach Charities, and is presented by The Fox School’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute.
