Temple honors undergraduate academic advisors in awards ceremony

Temple University recently honored four advisors for excellence in guiding undergraduates towards their academic goals. The Undergraduate Academic Advising Awards, which began in 2005 with support from the Provost’s Office, recognize advisors who have demonstrated an outstanding level of commitment to their advisees and to improving advising at the University. Each year the selection committee chooses one professional advisor, an advising administrator, a faculty advisor and a new advisor to receive the awards.

This year’s winners are:

Faculty Advisor: Jonathan Kline, assistant professor, Tyler School of Art

Professional Advisor: Janine C. Warnas, senior advisor, Academic Advising & Career Development, Ambler Campus

Advising Administrator: Matthew Campbell, director, Office of Student Services, College of Science and Technology

Outstanding New Advisor: Rashidah N. Andrews, principal advisor, College of Liberal Arts

Each recipient received an engraved plaque and a gift of $1,000. The advisors’ names have also been added to a perpetual plaque displayed in 1810 Liacouras Walk. Students, faculty and staff may nominate an advisor for the 2011-2012 awards. For guidelines on candidate eligibility, visit the Office of the Senior Vice Provost’s website.
