Temple rowing wins Mayor's Cup
Owls take first in three event finals

The Temple men’s and women’s rowing teams won the 2008 Mayor’s Cup in Tampa, Fla., on March 15.
The Owls, who beat out eight other teams for the title, captured first place in three event finals. Jacksonville finished second in the team standings, followed by Yale, Emory, Marietta, Stetson, Central Florida, Florida Tech and Wesleyan. The women’s varsity eight captured its final in 5:13.1. TU also captured first in the morning heat in 4:57.1. TU’s second varsity eight captured an open water win in 5:35.8 over Stetson (6:00.9). In the frosh eight event, Temple finished first of four boats in 4:38.5. |
The women’s frosh four finished second in 5:48.2 behind Emory (5:42.5). In the men’s events, Temple’s second varsity four won in 5:09.9. TU’s men’s varsity eight finished second in 4:20.2. Yale won the event in 4:15.7. Temple won the morning heat in the event in 4:15.3. The Owls’ second varsity eight also finished second (4:23.6); Yale captured the race in 4:28.7. Temple returns to action on March 29 when the men’s and women’s crews host the 26th Annual Murphy Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
