Temple University’s Music Prep receives Cultural Fund grant

Boyer College’s Music Preparatory and Enrichment Program was one of 220 Philadelphia arts organizations to receive a city Cultural Fund grant.

The grants, which were announced earlier this month, totaled $2.1 million in city funding to support art-based organizations and non-profits across the city.

Music Prep, which provides music instruction for people of all ages and gifted-musician programs for students in the Philadelphia School District, received $11,654 in funding — the largest grant for a first-time winner.

The unrestricted grant funding will be used for programming and operational needs, Music Prep director Mark Huxsoll said.

“The Cultural Fund is a new source of funding for us,” he said. “Operation grants, the money organizations like ours use to take care of the daily nuts and bolts, are often the hardest to receive. The grant will definitely boost our budget.”

Music Prep receives a portion of its annual operating budget from Temple. Their remaining funding needs come from tuition, gifts and grants.

The program provides a variety of individual lessons and group enrichment opportunities for children and adults alike.
