Jeffrey D. Henderer, M.D., has been appointed professor and chair of ophthalmology at the Temple University School of Medicine and Temple University Hospital. He joins Temple from the Wills Eye Institute, where he was assistant surgeon on the Glaucoma Service, and Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, where he was assistant professor of ophthalmology.

After earning his B.A. from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., and M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Henderer completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami and a clinical fellowship in glaucoma at the Wills Eye Hospital. He then spent a year at Temple’s School of Medicine where he was clinical instructor and director of glaucoma services.

Dr. Henderer’s research interests include screening for glaucoma, the interpretation of ancillary tests and better ways to describe the glaucomatous nerve.

Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Henderer has been a frequent presenter at local and national specialty meetings. His professional

memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the International Society of Spaeth Fellows, the American Eye Study Club and the Delaware Academy of Ophthalmology.

A skilled and dedicated teacher, Dr. Henderer is also the author or co-author of numerous articles in professional journals and eight book chapters on ophthalmologic surgery and glaucoma.
