Temple will host national forum on teaching

In partnership with the U. S. Department of Education, Comcast and A&E Networks, Temple will host the first of a series of national town hall events discussing the importance of great teachers and the future of public education.

The TEACH event, to be held on Monday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. in the Temple Performing Arts Center, will bring together U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Mayor Michael Nutter, Superintendent Arlene Ackerman, AETN CEO Abbe Raven, actor Tony Danza, public school teachers, Temple students and community members for a panel discussion.

The TEACH campaign is a U.S. Department of Education initiative designed to raise awareness of the teaching profession. The effort coincides with both the launching of teach.gov, a new federal initiative designed to recruit teachers to urban and rural school districts, and the broadcast of “Teach: Tony Danza,” a miniseries produced by A&E at Philadelphia’s Northeast High School.
