As you may know, the potential exists for a SEPTA strike that would affect subways, buses and trolleys beginning as soon as Tuesday, Oct. 28. SEPTA's Regional Rail service will not be affected. This is a good opportunity to review Temple’s policies and plans in the event of a suspension of local transit service.

In the event of a strike, Temple University will be open for business as usual, and all classes and events will be held as scheduled, as was the case during past SEPTA work stoppages. Employees will be expected to report to work on time to ensure uninterrupted service to students, visitors and patients. Talk with your supervisor if you have any questions regarding your schedule.

Please monitor local media this week, as well as septa.org. Temple will also watch the situation closely and provide updates as needed on Twitter and Facebook.

Employees and students are encouraged to

• most importantly, leave extra time for travel around the city.
• use SEPTA Regional Rail to access Main Campus. All of SEPTA's major regional lines stop at Temple University Station. Remember: Regional Rail can be used to travel between Main Campus and Jefferson, Suburban and 30th Street stations in the city.
• talk with your co-workers about the possibility of carpooling; parking on campus will be tight.
• use a bike to travel local distances, as a growing number of Temple commuters do.

In addition, the following transportation options will be available:

• The Ambler shuttle to and from Main Campus will operate as usual. The shuttle between Ambler Campus and SEPTA’s Ambler Station will also operate as usual.
• The Temple Administrative Services Building (TASB) shuttle will operate as usual between Main Campus and the Health Sciences Center (HSC).
• The Owl Loop and TUr Door shuttles will operate as usual.
• Temple University will participate in a regional shuttle-bus service, which is described below.

Shuttle-Bus Service
If SEPTA local service is on strike, Temple and other universities in the region will share a shuttle-bus service. Service will begin at 6 a.m. and continue through 1:45 a.m., with buses leaving approximately every half hour. Students, faculty and staff—including contract employees—will need to show their Temple IDs each time they board a bus. All buses will have a “Hotel Shuttle” sign.

There are three routes: one each for South Philadelphia, North Philadelphia and West Philadelphia. The West Philadelphia route will require passengers to change buses at City Hall to complete their trip to Main Campus or HSC.
