Temple University announced on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, that its football team is bowl-bound for the fifth time in the program’s history. The Owls will close their record-breaking season when they face the Toledo Rockets (9-2) on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
A win will cement the team’s legacy as Temple’s winningest. And earning that historic 11th win has become the team’s post-season goal. In a press conference held after the bowl selection announcement, Head Coach Matt Rhule and several players spoke about how they plan to capitalize on the opportunity.
“We’re ecstatic to receive a bowl bid to the Boca Raton Bowl to play against a Toledo team that was ranked for much of this year,” said Rhule. “I think for a year in which we were picked to finish third in the East [division], to finish the year as Eastern champions with 11 wins, never done before in Temple football history, with a bowl win, is our goal.”
Junior P.J. Walker, quarterback, is looking forward to playing in a bowl game and ending the season with another historic achievement. “We’ve got another opportunity to finish the season the way we started,” he said. “We could be the first team in Temple history to have 11 wins. That’s the mindset and that’s the goal.”
