The new, the essential, the out of the box: 6 student clubs and organizations you won’t want to miss

We started counting all of the student clubs and organizations on campus—Nutshell doesn’t have much going on—and when we got to 300-something our heads began to ache. The options can seem endless. So, remember the wise words of someone who was probably famous or just really old: the more the merrier. From making a difference at Temple to learning how to breakdance, there’s something for everyone. Behold, six awesome student clubs and organizations you’ll want to check out.

The New

Babel Poetry Collective
Got a passion for poetry? Have some mic skills? Then Babel Poetry Collective is calling reciting your name. It’s an organization for MCs, musicians, poets and singers to come together to create new work and perform it. The group has two shows per semester, and they also perform at other events on and off campus.

By Any Means Necessary
Dancing around your dorm might annoy your roommates, so we recommend dancing around with By Any Means Necessary (BAMN). BAMN is a dance organization that prides itself on creating a professional environment for its members. This club is perfect for the dancer who is unsure of what they want to do or how to make a career out of it. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your moves and connect with other dancers.

The Essentials

Temple Student Government
Future politician. Rising activist. Passionate Temple student. Whoever you are, or whoever you want to be, Temple Student Government (TSG) is a great way to make real changes on campus and advocate for the Temple community. An easy way to get involved is to attend their general assembly meetings Mondays at 4 p.m. in the Howard Gittis Student Center, Room 200C.

Cherry Crusade
What do you get when you mix Temple’s most enthusiastic sports fans with paint and cardboard cutouts of people’s heads? The Cherry Crusade. This group is the self-declared heartbeat of Broad Street and are the No. 1 supporters of all of our athletic teams. If you’re passionate about Temple sports, then meet your new squad.

The Out Of The (Cake) Box

Let's Bake
So, it’s probably safe to say that your kitchen isn’t as well stocked as mom and dad’s. Lucky for you—and your friends if you’re willing to share—there’s a baking organization on campus. Let’s Bake is a great way to learn new recipes and techniques. The group provides all the ingredients, supplies and space for baking lessons.

Temple Breakers
The thing about breakdancing is that, well, you can break yourself. With the help of Temple Breakers, you can become a fearless breakdancer and actually know what you’re doing. The club hosts free dance lessons with experienced breakdancers.
