With the Thanksgiving holiday this week, I want to say how grateful I am for all of you. Collectively, our students, faculty, staff and alumni continue to excel in nearly every measure that matters. We’re bigger, better and more recognized than at any time before. 

Today, Temple is an international powerhouse with some of the world’s greatest thinkers and doers choosing to make their mark here. 

Here are a few examples, from just the past several months. 

• Our researchers have earned significant federal grant money to advance science and health, including a $13.5 million study of cancer disparities.
• We’ve celebrated our first Rhodes Scholar, who is representing us now at Oxford.
• We’ve seen our first Goldwater Scholar and a record number of Fulbright Scholars.
• We graduated more students—more than 10,000—than at any time in our history, and we have more students graduating on time or early than ever before.
• Our student-athletes have secured the lead in academics in the American Athletic Conference and have raised our profile to millions of TV viewers, via the success of our bowl-eligible football team and our men’s and women’s basketball teams, which just started the season with a string of wins.
• And we’ve continued to be an important hub of art and culture, including a recent donation of iconic music memorabilia to our Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection.

These are truly historic times, and I’m grateful to our always outstanding Owls. Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for our wonderful university and for all those we serve.
