Announcing Temple Future Scholars
Dear Colleagues,
Last year at this time, the university announced the launch of Temple Promise, a last-dollar financial aid program designed to make a Temple education more affordable for some of Philadelphia’s best and brightest students. In its first year, the program has been a tremendous success, with nearly 500 students receiving Temple Promise funds.
It is a great step in the right direction, but we also know that there is more we can do to ensure that we are creating educational pathways for the area’s young people. This is why today, we are excited to share news about the launch of another new, innovative program: Temple Future Scholars.
A scaled pipeline program, Temple Future Scholars will support low-income, first-generation-to-college students in Philadelphia public middle schools. A collaborative effort between Temple, the School District of Philadelphia and Heights Philadelphia, the program is structured to provide comprehensive support to seventh-grade students, guiding them through their academic journey from middle school to college.
While the program is expected to launch with 120 students, when it is at its full capacity, nearly 1,200 students in grades seven through 12 will be enrolled as Temple Future Scholars. Students who complete the program can then also be considered for the Temple Promise program.
The Temple Future Scholars program is the latest example of our continued commitment to Temple’s mission of access, opportunity, engagement and discovery. We invite you to learn more about the innovative program in this Temple Now piece.
Sincerely,
