To move forward, one must constantly embrace change.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, Emmy-award-winning broadcast journalist and NBC 10 news anchor Tracy Davidson will discuss how to accept change in both our business and our personal lives, and how doing so has led to her own success.

Davidson’s speech is part of Temple University’s eighth annual Women’s Entrepreneurship Conference, hosted by Temple’s League for Entrepreneurial Women. The program will also feature two panel discussions, “Fundamentals of Funding Your New Business” and “How Personal Finances Impact Your New Business.”

As a leader who has worked through and prevailed over the ever-shifting world of media, Davidson knows firsthand the important of accepting change. Between 1981 and 1986, she worked for several radio stations in New York and then moved to broadcasting for a CBS affiliate in Syracuse, before starting with NBC10 in 1996.

“All of us face change, and yet we’re all still afraid of it. But if we open ourselves up to the new opportunities, change can bring positive results. The same is true for business – if there is no longer a need for your service, you must change. The advent and role of the Internet in my career is a great example of this. It grew faster than we expected and changed everything. But now we are triumphing over it,” Davidson said.

Davidson is also dedicated to the improvement of women’s lives in her community. In 1992, she earned the “Sister Mary Vera Award” for her community service to women and children of Vera House. She also earned the National Association of Women Business Owners’ “Woman of Distinction” award in 2004; and in 1995, Women in Communications named her the “Communicator of the Year.”

The Women’s Entrepreneurship Conference will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Great Court in Mitten Hall on Temple’s Main Campus. It is a collaboration among the Fox School of Business, the School of Communications and Theater, the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, the School of Engineering and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute. The leading corporate sponsor is Wachovia. The event is free and open to the public.

As part of the event, several Temple alumnae will be inducted into Temple Women’s Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame: Irene Hannan (political science graduate work; senior vice president of specialized services, Citizens Bank), Lynne Ewell (B.S. electrical engineering; co-founder and president of Prism Engineering) and Sharon Pinkenson (B.S. education; executive director of Greater Philadelphia Film Office).
