Healey retiring; Brennen returning to faculty

Two respected senior administrators will be leaving their positions in 2008.

Thomas M. Healey, executive director of the Office of Planning and Policy Analysis (OPPA) since 2002, has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2008.

During his tenure, Healey spearheaded a course renumbering project, assumed responsibility for the administration of the Course and Teaching Evaluation process, improved information reporting and formed universitywide committees for data management, database administration and support for academic policy implementation.

"I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to serve at Temple, and to the many friends I've made here," Healey said.

Bonnie S. Brennen, the vice provost for faculty affairs since 2005 and a leading scholar in the field of journalism history, will return to her teaching and research in the Department of Journalism in the School of Communications and Theater in fall 2008 following a one-semester study leave.

Brennen, who introduced new orientation programs for faculty and deans during her tenure as vice provost (including a new department chair leadership training program that debuted this fall), will be working on media history book projects during her study leave.

"The extended Temple community is grateful for Tom's and Bonnie's leadership," Staiano-Coico said. "Their accomplishments made real differences in the lives of Temple faculty, students and staff. They have exciting opportunities ahead of them, but we'll miss their energy and creativity here in the provost's office."
