It is with mixed emotions that I announce that Larry Alford, dean of university libraries, has accepted a new position as Chief Librarian at the University of Toronto effective no later than August 1.

For those of you not familiar with the University of Toronto, I can say that it is one of the largest and most prominent institutions of higher education in North America. Its library system is especially impressive and it is not an exaggeration to say that the head of the library of the University of Toronto is among the most prestigious university library positions in all of North America. In many ways, the library serves not only as the library for a great university but also as a tremendous resource for the Canadian nation. I can think of no one better suited to assume the leadership role for this library in the 21st century than Larry Alford.

We all hate to see Larry leave us, but we celebrate his achievement and are proud that a member of the Temple academic leadership team has risen to such prominence.

The University of Toronto announced Larry's appointment today.
