Nearly half of innovative U.S. startups are founded by user entrepreneurs

A study co-authored by Sheryl Winston Smith of Temple’s Fox School of Business shows that “user entrepreneurs,” who create products or services for themselves before commercializing them, have founded more than 46 percent of innovative startups that have lasted five years or more. "In the context of use, they're able to see unmet market need or potential areas of demand that someone else might not perceive,” she said.
