Small businesses have more job openings, but good applicants are hard to find

The good news: After a long, bruising recession, small businesses are beginning to have job openings. The bad news, according to Temple economist Bill Dunkelberg in his latest "Small Matters" column, is that as the demand for labor picks up, small-business owners are struggling to find employees who have the necessary qualifications or who have a clean work history without red-flag problems such as drug use or poor social skills.
