Pfizer is reportedly looking to buy German generic drug maker Stada. The strategy is to diversify their revenue base. Many of Pfizer's drugs are losing patent protection and will have to compete against generics. Tom Getzen, a health economist at Temple University, says drug companies may be shifting to owning many generic drugs in one category. According to Getzen, it doesn't matter if you have patents when you control the market.
