A March 13 conference at Temple University Ambler is exploring the story of the Women's Land Army and its "farmerettes," a group volunteer farm workers and pioneering landscape architects that was active in the 1930s. The farmerettes were particularly influential in Philadelphia, says Jenny Rose Carey director of Temple's Ambler Arboretum. "It's an important part of our history that seems to have been missed and, really, it needs to be told," Carey said.
