Adolescence begins earlier, lasts longer, says Laurence Steinberg
The years we think of as defining adolescence have shifted, according to Laurence Steinberg, a psychology professor at Temple and author of You and Your Adolescent: the Essential Guide for Ages 10 to 25. "Most social scientists think of adolescence as ending when people establish economic independence and residential independence from their parents and because of changes in the educational requirements for good jobs and because of the current state of the economy young people are staying dependent on their parents longer than they have ever before."
