Temple responds to Gov. Corbett's budget proposal
Gov. Corbett's proposed budget would cut Temple's Commonwealth appropriation by more than half. "We think it's a drastic cut," said Kenneth E. Lawrence Jr., Temple's senior vice president for government, community and public affairs. "It makes me worried that some of my friends will have to drop out," Temple freshman Kayleigh Jenkins said. "Temple provides an access to excellence for students who couldn't afford college," said Erin Horvat, an associate professor of urban education at Temple. "Fewer kids having access to higher education will push back everything a few decades," Horvat said. "By not investing in the future of students, Corbett is going to negatively impact the state," said Natalie Ramos-Castillo, president of Temple Student Government. Temple officials urged students, employees and alumni to contact elected officials to push for fewer cuts.
