Temple's Michel Boufadel speaks at Rowan
Michel Boufadel, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Temple, went to Rowan University Tuesday to discuss long-term predictions for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that occurred last year. "Oil spills are problematic to us for many reasons," he said. "Heavy oil covers the feathers and fur of many animals causing them to lose insulation and buoyancy, or can kill them when they ingest it trying to clean themselves. There is a significant ecological impact. Certain components called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or PAHs are also toxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic."
