Research shows benefits of running for homeless
Temple researchers are monitoring the effects of Back on My Feet, a shelter-based program that promotes self-sufficiency of the homeless through running. So far, they have seen increases in self-confidence and connectedness. "I think what's even more important, for any runner, is that it allows you to keep setting goals. That's what gives me this level of self-confidence," said Jeremy Jordan of Temple's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. "So I get the physiological benefit of feeling good after exercising, but it also helps me feel like I can do things that previously I thought I couldn't."
