Suicide capital of America: Las Vegas
Temple sociologist Matt Wray talked with Nevada Public Radio's "State of Nevada" about why suicide risk is so high in Las Vegas: If you visit Las Vegas, you have a higher risk of suicide "compared to staying at home or visiting some place else. It is the strongest evidence we have that there is something about the place that is driving this effect," said Wray. "It is equally likely that what is putting visitors at higher risk is essentially that it has become known as a place to go and kill yourself, much like the Golden Gate Bridge, that it exerts a magnetic appeal to those bent on self-destruction."
