Temple student holds local fundraiser to help Ugandans suffering from malaria

In sub-Saharan Africa, a child dies every 45 seconds from malaria — a statistic Temple social work student Kelsey Nielsen calls unacceptable and preventable. For the past year-and-a-half, Nielsen has been in Uganda assisting residents so they can receive the necessary medical treatment after they become stricken with the disease. Locally, she is holding a fundraiser to help the mission team she works with continue its efforts in Uganda, providing medical care for everyone. "Our heart is huge about raising funds for the malaria crisis in Uganda," she said. "We're just thankful with whatever we raise during the event."
