Twenty-seven Delaware Valley high school students played laser tag in a 10'x12' maze with robots they designed and built as part of a five-week introduction to electrical engineering summer course at Temple. The students remotely guided their robots on a "seek-and-destroy mission" to kill the other robots while navigating toward the center of the maze. The battery-powered robots featured microprocessors, infra-red detectors and transmitters, motor controllers, wireless cameras and Bluetooth. The students earn two college credits and learn basic concepts of electrical and computer engineering during the course, which was taught by John Helferty, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering.
