The impact of the death of John Douglas — an associate professor of voice and opera at Temple's Boyer College of Music and Dance and musical director and conductor of Temple Opera Theater — was felt far from Philadelphia. In New York State, Douglas was best known as a leading force behind the Lake George Opera in Saratoga, where he was a conductor, head of the music staff and director of the young-artists program. "John was basically [the young musicians'] all-around den mother," said Elizabeth Giblin of Lake George Opera. "He took these young artists under his wing and showed them not only what they'd be doing in our productions but also gave them a segue into the opera world."
