For some kids, the end of summer is more than just a drag. Some children feel genuine apprehension at having to return to school, especially as they get older and prepare to make the transition to middle school or high school. Child psychology experts like Deborah Drabick, an associate professor of psychology at Temple, say this sort of discomfort is very common. Social anxiety is usually at the top of the list of culprits. "Are they going to maintain old relationships when they go to the new school? Are they going to make new friends? Are they going to fit in? These are their concerns," she explained.
